Board of Governors

Board of Governors hold a team of eminent educationist and administrates with respectful profiles that look after the environment of learning in the University and have canny sight on whether the University is being regulated as per its vision and mission enshrined in the statute of Sikkim Professional University. The members under this board however, cannot delegate their responsibilities. The articles are also stipulated in this regard of their powers and responsibilities.

Below are some points that highlight the roles of Board of Governors.

  • Board of Governor approves the estimates of income and expenditure.
  • The same board can participate in the appointment, promotion and dismissal of high profiles of the University including Vice Chancellor / President / Professors / Dean/ Chief Executives / University Executives.
  • BOG is responsible for overall management of the University and it also frames and devolves the responsibilities of other high profile executives of University.

Advisory Board

Advisory Board is the group of members; some are pooled from University itself and others are from outside including business entrepreneurs or from government those who share same vision and work on same mission of maintaining the quality of education imparted by the University. The Chairman / Chancellor appoint trustee Advisory Board members those who are nominated by the Dean. The role of Advisory Board is to advise the BOG on maintaining the healthy relationship in the University in respect of skill development and imparting knowledgeto students, collaborating with external organizations, Trust, NGOs with the University for the sake of imparting quality education at large. Advisory Board helps the University to achieve its mission and safeguard the assets of University by ensuring the effective and efficient use of each resource of the University that favours in achieving the objectives of the University. The Board can advise / give feedback / provide guidance and information to BOG, AC, Deans and HODs on specific areas of expertise with the objective of achieving the level of academic excellence.

Academic Council

The council which is known for its regulating the issues related to academic matters, add-on degree programmes, modification in any of the degree programmes and overall development of academics of the University and giving advice to Vice Chancellor and Board of Governors. The Chairperson of Academic Council is the Vice-Chancellor and membership of the council is nominated by VC of the University.

The major role of the academic council is to implement the policies to improve the quality of the academic programmes of the University and also redress the requirements of the admissions and changes in the departments of the University if necessary.

Academic council is authorized to modify any of the academic unit of the degree programme or can add or discontinue any of the programmes but all these academic modifications can only be possible by majority vote of its members with a subject to approval by the Chair of Academic Council.

Research Council

Research Council is constituted to uplift the growth, skills and development of faculty through various research programmes and FDP activities. URC’s main aim is to foster research efforts supported by the scholars and faculty members. The council decides upon the proposals, funding and reviewing the research applications submitted by the faculty members. Total strength of research work in the respective department is also being decided by URC. Research Council develops the framework and guideline through which research work will be carried out. The council also summaries the research report to be presented to the University.

University Research Guidelines, Application Form, Membership List, Degree Awardees, List of Guides, List of Scholars etc are covered and reviewed by the Research Council.
